Esports business BaseStack is set to launch a landmark gaming arena in the heart of Dortmund, further cementing the city’s reputation as a hub for digital innovation.
BaseStack Dortmund will combine gaming, esports training, content creation and events, making it a uniquely multifaceted place for gamers to meet, compete and level up their skills.
The 1500m2 venue on Kampstraße will include more than 150 top-spec gaming PCs and console pods featuring both the latest and niche games, a food and drink-to-PC service, bootcamp rooms tailored for pro team esports training and private event hire.
A versatile 150m2 competition arena and event space will serve the local and wider gaming communities with a dynamic calendar of esports tournaments and club nights, while streaming facilities will be a hub for digital content creation. The venue will also feature a licensed café and bar, merchandise store and co-working spaces for hot-desking and office hire.
Opening on 23 November, BaseStack Dortmund will be the second venue for the group. The company launched its first location in Łódź, Poland, in June 2021. It quickly developed a reputation for offering first class esports events such as the BaseStack Championship Series, which attracts competitors from across the country thanks to its digital audience of more than 350,000 fans.
BaseStack will expand on this offer at its new flagship venue in Dortmund by introducing grass roots esports training and coding classes, leveraging the explicit links esports has with computing education and STEAM subjects and by promoting skills in leadership, teamwork, problem solving, communication, and digital literacy.
Alexander Doberstau, BaseStack COO and Head of Germany, commented: “We are extremely excited to open the flagship BaseStack venue in the heart of Dortmund. It is a city that embraces digitalisation and transformation, as demonstrated by its status as the first European Capital of Innovation in Germany.
“Digital culture is at the heart of BaseStack Dortmund, offering people of all ages an incredible space for social gaming, competitive esports, events and content creation.”
Founded in 2020 by CEO Justin Hamer and CCO Rachel Butterworth, BaseStack offers the ultimate experience for gamers. It brings together vital aspects of digital culture and esports under one roof.
Players meet and network through gaming, training, content creation, tournaments and online events. They develop life skills in teamwork, leadership and strategic thinking and expand their career horizons.
